TEXTURED PLASTER
HISTORICAL USE
Traditional slaked-lime plasters have been used for centuries as an architectural coating.
Whether it is a Venetian plaster from Italy, a locally made product, or a hand mixed compound, plasters can alter the look and feel of any architectural space. Contemporary or rustic, plaster is versatile in application and as a decorative solution. Some plasters, such as metallic Lusterstone, are best suited in a single room or area. Where as Venetian and textured plasters are best suited as an overall wall finish replacing paint all together.
VENETIAN PLASTERS
Serving as a backdrop to your contemporary or rustic interior, these plasters cover large areas, replacing the use of paint and completely transforming the feel of the living space. These plasters range in texture from:
- Smooth (fine grain)
- Textured (medium grain)
- Rough (heavy grain)
With sheen levels of:
- Matte
- Satin
- Gloss
- Metallic (purely decorative, see ‘decorative plaster’ for more information)
True lime based Venetian Plaster, such as those sold by Firenze Enterprises, can be composed of up to 42% actual marble. These plasters can be polished to a marble like sheen and are considered to be true Venetian Plasters typically imported from Italy.
Synthetic Venetian Plasters, having very little natural compounds, are often made in the U.S. but can also be imported. The difference in price, and close resemblance to lime based Venetian Plaster, has proven to be an extremely effective alternative to lime based plasters, especially when considering the price of covering large surface areas with such plasters.
