Whether you prefer a subtle faux finish, or a dramatic trompe l’oeil panel, Diadoo Studio can help design and produce an overall transformation to help realize a vision, satisfy a desire, or fulfill a need.
Steve Diadoo is best known for his trompe l’oeil bas reliefs over faux painted marble. Such photo-realistic trompe l’oeil illusions are all done by hand and can take days, weeks, or even months, as in the case of Ingalls DeMars Painting Studio restoring a home in Rockland, Maine where the project took twelve months to complete. Although Steve planned on studying Architecture in college, his passion for Art History and classical art of Michelangelo, better prepared him for a career in decorative painting. He has undergone extensive foundational training with Faux Effects International in Vero Beach, Florida. He has successfully completed numerous courses in painting, drawing, design and art history, and has gained much of his practical knowledge by training and apprenticing with some of the best in their field:
- Has extensive study and knowledge of 18th and 19th century traditional faux painting techniques taught by Pierre Finkelstein (Author of best selling book, Art of Faux) who he remains in contact with to this day.
- Apprenticed with internationally renowned Master Plasterer, Carter Averbeck.
- Apprenticed with Master Faux-Artisan, Scott Porter (Owner/Instructor of Twin Cities Faux Institute).
- Apprenticed with RichTone/Tenet Painting in custom building projects.
- Studies and fine-tunes his skills with a community of faux finishers spanning from California to Australia.
- Is an active member of fauxforum.com where he submits inspirational questions, answers and photos to beginner and veteran faux finishers from all over the world.
Recently Steve orchestrated and taught faux finishing during a builder’s open house, which served as a unique way to attract new homebuyers during this slow housing market.
In 2007, Steve was named Grand Prize Winner of the Emmy-winning Cutters T.V Production’s show, Paint Paper and Crafts, contest, for best work submitted. Steve also recently flew to North Carolina to appear on the show that airs on local PBS and the Create channel, where he demonstrated his mastery of grisaille trompe l’oeil to thousands of viewers all across the nation.
